I took part in Washi (Japanese paper) indigo dye workshop.
Usually paper is weak in the water so you have to do special preparation for paper.
We used glue made of konjac powder.
We painted konjac glue both sides of paper.
Then dry paper.
Put clip in bottom of paper for keeping it flat during dying.
Then we can dip paper in the indigo vat.
We put paper in certain level and keep the level for ten min. Then we can dye straight line.
We did 3rd times. made 3 shades of blue.
Wash with water and dip in water for a while.
This gradient dye method. We dip it in very slowly into indigo vat. 10min to top of paper and 10min to take it out.
They were vely slowly lifted up too.
The we made beautifle gradient indigo dye.
Also wash with water and dip in water for a while.
They usually dry paper on flat surface naturaly, but we run out of time so we put in another paper to keep it flat and took it home.
The main difference with fabric is have to paint konjac glue on paper, so I will try paper dying at home later. I want make a traditional japanese kite!
