Beach hibiscus ‘hamabo’ festival on Awaji island, near Yura

On Awaji Island, opposite the small town of Yura, is an uninhabited island called Narugashima. It has one main mountain bit and a long stretching spit, which protects the harbour of Yura. You can get there in 1 minute on this little boat. Once a year there is a special hippy festival celebrating the native flower called hanabo which is a kind of Hibiscus.

There are lots of drift wood on beach and many places of island because of typhoon.

はまぼう

This yellow flower is called “Hamabou”.

海岸

The other side of island has long beach and you can see Wakayama.

Hippies made sculpture out of drift wood and stones.

They were practicing hula dance.

炊き出し

They served a couple of kind of dishes for free. Everything is free in this festival. That’s great.

There were some bands played music.

They played African drums and african dancing. They were really fun band. Everyone was dancing with them.
