For two weeks in June every year all other works is but on standby as mulberry jam production goes into full swing.
When it stopped raining (it is rainy season) we could pick the blackest mulberries.
Lots were easy to reach but some were up here.
Many Many bowls of berries.
After insects have been drowned out, To make and elite kind of jam the little stalks needed to be snipped off. This job is really tiresome!
Then the berries sit in sugar for over 24hours.
To sterilise the jars they are boiled.
Once the hot jam is brought up to temperature they can be bottled sealed and ready to go!
While Junichi was out in the fields picking they asked me to draw some illustrations for the labels and promotion of the jam, which I was very happy to do!
