We dyed 9 squares of our 18 square curtain project.
Here are 7 of the ‘before’. Can you tell which ones become which pattern?
We used a variety of stitching, tying with rubber bands, clips, bits of plastic bag and binding with string.
Soaking the cloth in plain water before dyeing.
Going for the first dip. We used 6.8 litres of water despite the instructions saying just 3. It wouldn’t have been enough. But stronger?
The dye developing from green to blue as it is exposed to oxygen.
Soaking in the dye for about 3 minutes each dip.
We did 6 dips this time. I really wanted some rich dark blues.
The fun bit is unravelling! looks beautiful with the sun coming through. The above one was a complicated one involving stitching and zig-zag concertina. We got it from a great book (in Japanese) by Asako Sakakibara http://www.amazon.com/Asako-Sakakibara/e/B004LR8Q0Y
This took Junichi absolutely ages to stitch around each square then bind it to keep it white and prevent dye getting in.
Classic but lovely. I wanted high contrast and even circle size.
This was a really easy one with some bulldog clips.
I tried to do neat folds.
I love this one. Jellyfish?!
oh yeah.
